Ninth Week of 2010

Music at the moment: George Gershwin's Concerto in F.

A lot of thoughts swirling in my head at the moment. Thinking about my mouth sore that kept nagging at me over a week and how that can be a good analogy for some important things in life (well, when do I NOT try to make a meaningful connection between a trivial thing and some deep truths in life?) Also thinking of how we as human being worship constantly, whether it be God, ourselves or something else. A lot of things that we do is really a reflection of our tendency to worship something. Also thinking about the importance of being earnest, and no, not Oscar Wilde's play (although that is very good).

So I am turning 27 later this year. Eh. A lot of people around me are going through some changes in their careers, lifestyle and physical locations. As someone potentially in that transition, I find it exciting. And scary. And it got me thinking about those verses in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, about how there is a time for everything. When I looked them up, I read the verses following that passage and found them very comforting.

Ecclesiastes 3:9-15
⁹What gain has the worker from his toil? ¹⁰I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. ¹¹He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. ¹²I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; ¹³also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.

¹⁴I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him. ¹⁵That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away."

In our busy lives, we sometimes forget the joy of living, don't we? Not to take away from its toil, suffering and sin, but...we should really enjoy life. To enjoy God forever, that's the chief end of man, ain't it? God gave us life.

Upon the wee hour of of the tenth week of 2010, I want to push aside the busyness of life and walk toward enjoying more God and the life that He has given me.
